Lasts about a year with regular use
At least, that's how long mine have lasted- about a year. I am on blender #3, now. We usually use them for protein shakes, lemon slush or other icy drinks. We use it, on average, a few times per week. This last model only comes with the travel/drinking lid. The previous model had a different lid that was better at stopping leaks. If you're blending with ice cubes, plan on having to hold down the sliding part of the drinking lid to avoid leaking around the edges. Otherwise, it works out great & makes great slush or smoothies. It isn't too bad to clean. It has a very small footprint (like a large mug), so we actually don't end up putting it away all that often. It's nice that the cord wraps up inside when we do wish to clear the counter, though. Eventually, the motor gives out, but we like the product enough to go right out and get another one.

Total disappointment
I am the first to admit that I am not typically a picky person, and always give the benefit of the doubt in reviews of products.

We bought this blender last night so that we could make smoothies while on the hCG diet. Used it this morning for the first time and can't wait to return it!

All we were trying to do was blend up a cut up peach, and it took upwards of 5 min. to complete the blending process. We had to stop blending multiple times to mix it up with a spoon. Even trying the "pulse" method which is recommended did not work effectively.

Sure $15 - $18 is a steal, but not worth a single cent!

Greatest Blender for Protein Shakes
This blender is great for protein shakes especially those made with frozen fruit which it mixes extremely well. It works better than my expensive Oster blender, and I love that I can take it with me and drink on the way to work just as if I were drinking a cup of coffee. I would love to get one of these in white just to have it as a backup....

love it
so far so good. have made some smoothies, soups and mashed potatoes and it works great. feels solid and cleans up easily.

broken twice in a year
I bought the handblender a little less than a year ago. 8 months in, the plastic barrel that transmits the spin in the motor to the blender part wore away. I called Cuisinart and they sent out a replacement. Now, three months later, the same piece has worn away. I called Cuisinart and they said the warranty was for the original item not the replacement. I don't do anything crazy with my blender: smoothies and blending soup. No ice crushing or anything really hard--just fruit, mushy vegetables, and liquids. Not sure what's happened. At the beginning the blender worked fine and I'd probably give it 4/5 stars, but this review is for usage after a year. When making this purchase, I'd only assume that the product will last about a year.

could be better
Although this works to mix, which is helpful, it is not as efficient as it should be. Ingredients do spill out of the cup and the consistency does not equal using a hand blender. It is convenient in size and storage, but I would have expected a better product from Cusinart. I think it is best to buy a higher watt immersion blender if you are looking to create a whipped texture.

Great but noisy blender at bargain price
Pros: Does its job better - faster and more completely and with less mess than any other blender we've used - including ones that sell for 3 times its price.

Cons: Cheap construction. Very noisy - sounds like a leaf blower when it runs.

Bottom line: if you can live with the noise it's a great bargain.

excellent product.. no complaints so far
I have purchased this product b/c of all the great reviews it had received. I can now add my own to it. It works great, have had no problems with it. Very reliable product, and I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of purchasing it.

Does the job
Had his a couple of days now and it's doing the job. Particularly good at crushing ice for protein smoothies. Only takes a couple seconds and there are no ice chunks present. The colors have changed from photo to a gray face place with white and gray buttons. The little green buttons are now gray. It's noisy but works much quicker than the $100 kitchenaid it's replacing.

Has a 3 yr warranty, but certainly not reliable!
I bought this model b/c I was actually looking for a food processor, but the rubber seal was missing on my blender that attached to the mixer. We used the blender, just knew that it would leak (and it was a pain to drag out the heavy mixer every time). So I figured I was getting 2 products out of the deal. I knew the reviews were iffy, but they were several years old and it has a 3 yr warranty, right? Well, add mine to the list of short lived. Mine died after 7 months.

I did use the food processor a lot in February 09 when I bought it. Then it sat on the counter until summer when we used the blender to make the occassional milkshake or fruit smoothie, maybe every other week or so. It worked fine until I tried to use it yesterday. Had it loaded with fresh strawberries, sugar, juice... pressed on, the light came on, pressed blend, the light came on, no noise. Over and over, same thing. I suppose the motor just died between the last use and now for no particular reason? So now the big debate. Pay $10 and try to get a new one, try to take it back (I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond with a gift card from Christmas). Honestly, I don't see why I should have to pay shipping for something under warranty but that's another story - I can argue that with the "customer service". And who knows how long it will take. And do I even want another one knowing it has a short life?

I will say that while I had it, I liked it as other people did. Large clear containers held lots of ingredients. I was making hot chocolate mix in the food processor and it blended beautifully. Also used it to chop cookies for rum balls and for other jobs I used to use my Salad Shooter for. Now I'll have to decide whether to go back to the Salad shooter or get another food processor.

A few things I didn't like about the blender was mentioned in other reviews. It didn't seem to "settle" easily so you really had to push things down (ie fresh fruits, etc). Also, since the top is so wide and the pour spout is not deep, you had to pour slowly and guide it with a spoon or it'd plop everywhere but into the cup. Definitely improvements that can be made.

It is a shame that we come to these sites for reviews of products. It seems that most break in less than a year despite the warranty (if the warranty is more than a year that's a miracle in and of itself!). Sadly, Corporate America seems to think we are a throw away society when that's NOT the case for most of us. I would love to keep an item for many years. Hmmmm, maybe I should go searching the shelves of the Goodwill. For a couple bucks, I may find a blender that still works..... I do still have my no longer made leaky one!

Very good purchase
Better than expected. Great quality and price. I have not stopped using the two items since they arrived.

Same story as most other review.... dead motor, burn smell...
I cant believe this thing cost $100. THe burning smell when operated at high levels was always troubling to me. But the fact that it happened the first time I used it, I 'wrote it off' as just an odd issue that will not go away. No big deal, really.

Of course, then motor died within the first year (like most other reviews). So I discuss the issue with the fine fols at Cuisinart. They inform me that I need to pay for all shipping, and they also need me to include a $10 check in my return to pay for the shipping BACK to me! What a joke.

What good is a 3 year warranty on something that clearly wont last a year and costs you $30 every time you need it fixed? THey also informed me that I should expect 3-4 weeks for completion.

At this point, Im just going to buy a new blender. I suggest everyone stay away from this product. My next blender will certainly be created by another company as well.
